Kentia Care
1. Your Boston home or Boston office, place of business, whether spacious and elegant or of modest size, deserves the beauty of Kentia Palm Trees, made famous in Victorian parlors. Kentias are gorgeous, gracefully arching, and well worth the initial investment. These no fuss pot plants require little maintenance for years of pleasure.
2. A Kentia tree is one of the best suggestions for Boston interior office decoration as its bold appearance will attract favorable attention. Elegant and airy, it will add a tropical note to any room. It is ideal for homes, Boston offices and public areas such as malls and hotels.
3. The Kentia as a thin basic trunk with long thin stems. Palm leaves extend from fronds or stems. Its development is rather slow so it remains comfortably in the same pot for a long while, an excellent office indoor plant for youe Boston interiorscape.
4. Kentias prefer indirect sunlight. Although they easily grow in spaces with less exposure they do require some natural light. Their growth is gradual but if they are in a room with considerable amounts of filtered light their development will be enhanced. Their space will get more compact over time, requiring repotting. The ideal situation for plants is near a north or east window. A little direct sunlight in winter will not harm the plant, but direct sunlight must be avoided during the hot summer months to prevent sunburned leaves.
5. Also avoid exposing the palm to cold drafts or very low temperatures because the leaves may become burned in these conditions. Kentia leaves or fronds are endangered if they touch windows when the temperature is very low. Distancing the pot from air or heating vents will protect the palm from becoming too dry.
6. Leaf polishing sprays are not needed on Kentias. Some of the ingredients contained in such commercial products are very harmful to Kentias and will damage the leaves.
7. Like all palms, Kentias can not be pruned from the center. New growth comes from the central spike in the middle of the plants. Their shape and development do not allow for cutting in the center. However, trimming the tips of the leaflets on the fronds will not damage the tree. Damaged outer fronds may be removed if needed.
8. Before watering, the surface of the soil should feel dry to the touch. The amount and frequency of watering varies according to seasons and conditions such as temperature and humidity. Plenty of water should be applied each time the palm is watered to ensure the whole root ball is soaked. Water should drain out of the pot. The pot tray then should be emptied of excess water to avoid root rot.
9. Repeatedly , we at Plantscape Designs Inc. suggest the useage of Kentia palms in your Boston indoor office work place for the reasons listed in the above article.

When we think of adding a colorful accent to our indoor office plants we often think about cut flowers or a flowering potted plant. Actually there is another option. Tropical foliage plants that have beautiful colored leaves. If your office has the right conditions, bright light and warm temperature, there is an unlimited selection of plants that have colorful foliage and variegated leaves. Crotons, Cordyline, Rex begonias, Stromanthe are just a few that can brighten your office with some color. We use many of these on locations in the Boston metro area. Colored leafy botanicals have unlimited plant possibilities.
